What is blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty — this is a plastic surgery during which eyelid correction is performed and, if necessary, a change in the shape of the eyes. During the operation, surgeons remove excessively hanging skin and adipose tissue or redistribute fatty formations to obtain an aesthetic shape of the upper and lower eyelids.

As a rule, blepharoplasty is performed on men and women aged 35-45 and older. However, in the presence of congenital pathologies and acquired defects caused by diseases or injuries, surgery is recommended even at an earlier age.
 
Indications for blepharoplasty

The most common problems women and men need eyelid correction include:

  • ptosis (drooping) of the upper eyelid, which is accompanied by a gloomy and sullen look;
  • congenital and traumatic eyelid defects;
  • age-related changes in the skin of the eyelids, accompanied by flabbiness and the formation of deep wrinkles;
  • bags under the eyes, formed due to excess fat deposits (hernias) and increased swelling;
  • Asymmetry of the palpebral fissures.
Correction of the incision of the eyes can be caused by the aesthetic preferences of the patient.

Currently, blepharoplasty is one of the most requested plastic surgeries along with liposuction, rhinoplasty and breast augmentation. Quite often it is prescribed in combination with other anti-aging procedures — lipofilling or face and neck lift.

Eyelid correction is a minimally invasive surgical intervention and does not require a long recovery. However, it, like other operations, has contraindications:

Severe chronic diseases in the acute stage:
  • pregnancy, lactation;
  • acute infectious diseases;
  • new growths;
  • Pathologies of the blood coagulation system.

Where can I get blepharoplasty

When choosing a clinic for plastic surgery, it is important to take into account such parameters as the qualifications of surgeons and the material and technical base of the medical institution. The Latvian Center for Microsurgery has proven itself well among patients.

There are several main methods by which blepharoplasty in Latvia, — superior, inferior, transconjunctival and circular. The difference between them lies in the technique of making incisions and suturing. The surgeon determines the plan for the intervention during the consultation, taking into account the individual characteristics of the patient and his wishes regarding the shape and section of the eyes.

Eyelid correction is performed under local or general anesthesia. The duration of the operation is on average from 30 minutes to three hours and depends on the extent of the intervention. After the operation is completed, a pressure bandage is applied to the eyes, which must be worn for several hours.

Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure and does not require long-term hospitalization. As a rule, the patient is immediately discharged and the doctor continues his observation on an outpatient basis.

The rehabilitation period after the operation lasts from 10 to 14 days. For faster recovery, experts recommend using cold compresses. They reduce swelling and bruising, which can last up to three weeks. Postoperative scars become almost invisible within six months.

Patients should gradually restore eye strain. You can read two or three days after the operation, use contact lenses — in 14 days.
